KORE Power, Inc. announced today that its KOREplex facility in Buckeye, Arizona will be built by nationally recognized design-build company Yates Construction.
“Our groundbreaking facility needed a partner with extensive experience in providing advanced manufacturing facilities that would meet the technological and sustainability goals that the KOREplex will achieve,” said Lindsay Gorrill, CEO of KORE Power. “Yates Construction brings decades of advanced manufacturing and battery experience to the table, so it’s a natural fit. We look forward to working together to advance our aggressive schedule to get this project off the ground. “

The advanced manufacturing attributes of the KOREPlex include fully automated cell assembly lines, automated material movement and handling, an automated packaging line, and a pandemic-ready design to enable safe workplaces. The system is fully air-conditioned and has a solar-powered covered employee parking space.
KOREPlex will produce nearly 60 million battery cells annually to support a reliable and independent U.S. supply chain for lithium-ion battery cells, which are critical to the future of electric vehicles, power grids and more. The facility will have the capacity to supply 3.2 million households with electricity annually. KORE plans to start building the facility by the end of the year, with the goal of starting production in mid-2023.
“Yates Construction has worked in battery and advanced manufacturing for many years and is excited to partner with KORE Power on its lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility,” said William G. Yates III, President and CEO of Yates Construction. “We see every project as an opportunity to build meaningful relationships and offer our customers added value. We look forward to building this groundbreaking project with KORE Power. “
The construction of KOREplex will employ an estimated 3,400 workers during the peak construction period. The construction time is expected to take around 18 months.
KORE power is the leading US developer of battery cell technology for the energy storage and electric transportation industries. The company, founded in 2018, used the experience of its contract manufacturing partner to build battery cells and use them for its global customer base. The new KOREPlex facility will increase the company’s current annual production capacity of 2 GWh, which can be scaled up to 6 GWh to serve the rapidly growing battery market. KORE Power’s US facility will create more than 3,000 new jobs in modern Arizona manufacturing and strengthen US energy security through the creation of a new domestic battery cell supply.
KOREPlex will work with net zero carbon emissions through strategic partnerships and solar plus and storage cogeneration.
“We are excited to launch this significant project with KORE Power,” said Chet Nadolski, Chief Operating Officer of Yates Construction. “We are committed to the partnership and look forward to working with KORE Power to ensure the success of the project.”
