The workshop will be conducted simultaneously in the CDF Conference Room and the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School. The four-week program gives experienced lantern makers and presenters across the island the opportunity to do so

  • Build capacity by expanding the scope of creative learning experiences, offering hands-on experience and expertise in the lantern-making process.
  • With the development of new skills and nurturing of talents by allowing participants to work with new materials, fusing cross-cultural expressions and exchanges, inspirational strategies, skills and ideas through the guidance of a professional lantern designer.
  • Effectively create circles of light and integrate lighting into the lanterns.
  • Interpret topics/ideas in lantern construction and design
  • Strengthening the use of local, eco-friendly and recycled materials in the design and construction of lanterns.
  • Patricians need to be creative and should express themselves in a fun and relaxed environment where all opinions and ideas are encouraged and welcomed by all.

Train the Trainers is supported by the Ministry of Culture (Taiwan) through the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in St. Lucia under the Spotlight on Taiwan Fund, the Lantern Association of Taipei and the Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information .

The official launch will be Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

St Lucia marked International Day for People of African Descent on Wednesday 31st August with the official launch of the St Lucia Chapter of the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI). The day’s celebration also saw a panel discussion with keynote speaker Dr. June Soomer, Caricom representative at the United Nations Permanent Forum for People of African Descent, who presented the topic “Why the Permanent Forum is important for the Caribbean”.
