FROM COLE REIF
Great bending post
Trevor Rolfs, Sporting Director of Barton Community College, said an in-depth study of the needs of the sports department and the facilities for improvement had been made. Prior to his 11th year as Barton’s sports director, Rolfs said he made a list of facilities that are good, bad, and in between.
Barton hired a design / construction company to produce drawings and rough drafts for possible improvements and new structures.
“We are very excited to be able to share these plans with our supporters and those running the college very soon,” said Rolfs. “It was a long process that was stopped last spring because of COVID-19.”
As a possible conversion project, Rolfs used the example of the university’s athletics training room. As sports and athletes have grown, Barton has outgrown his current training space. Rolfs noted that the exercise room could be moved to the weight room and then a new facility could be built for the weight room.
“We look forward to getting things ‘real’ on paper and on video to show the vision of what we want to do for the future,” said Rolfs.
Prior to the pandemic last March, Rolfs said his department was about to develop pictures and plans to expand the south side of the Kirkman Center, where the basketball hall is located.
