Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George’s County Executive, joined the leaders in celebrating the construction of the new Liberty Sports Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

The park, due to open in spring 2022, will include multi-purpose fields and has been touted by Alsobrooks as the leading sports complex in the mid-Atlantic region.

“It’s another truly transformative project for Prince George’s County for all of us,” said Alsobrooks. “Liberty Sports Park will be the area’s premier sports destination and another great reason to visit our county.”

It will also feature on-site restaurants, hotels, and entertainment options, which should boost the county’s economy and create new local jobs.

“Liberty Sports Park will create jobs in our county and state, as well as additional income for county-level businesses. These economic benefits are important to consider when we like projects [this]“, Said Alsobrooks.

Alsobrooks also stressed the need for a sports park, adding that “it’s about justice”.

She said it will create an unmet need for the county’s residents by providing families, high school athletes and adults with a convenient way to stay active close to home.

Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the State of Maryland, and Prince George’s County Government are all involved in the construction and development of the park. It is managed by Green Branch Management Group Corp., a non-profit organization in Prince George’s County.

Prince George’s Community College and Prince George’s County Boys and Girls Clubs also have access to the sports complex.

“When we don’t give children these opportunities in their own homes, they begin to link this in the child’s mind to the fact that their home is somehow inferior to the places they travel,” said Alsobrooks.

“It is so important to the psyche and self-esteem of the children of Prince George’s County that they have the conveniences and facilities at home that they don’t travel to someone else’s home to get what they need and Here Go So it’s about justice, ”she continued.
