Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Week of February 21-25

The following highway works are planned over the next week in the Culpeper District, weather permitting. Traffic movements can be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (TO UPDATE) show revisions since last week’s report.

County of Albemarle

Federal highway 64 – debris removal. Expect mobile and stationary right shoulder closures between mile marker 105 and mile marker 131 Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and left lane closures between mile marker 106 and mile marker 131 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.: 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Crews clear trees and other storm debris from the shoulder and clearing zone. Several teams will work in this area. Be aware of traffic controls and signposts as you approach work areas.

(TO UPDATE) Albemarle design-build projects – Watch out for construction activities in the following areas:

  • S. 250 (Richmond Road) off Interstate 64. Construction of divergent Diamond Interchange. Speed ​​limit reduced to 25 miles per hour. Expect single lane closures Monday through Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Use caution when driving through the work area and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the work area.
    Tuesday from 9:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. the stop light at exit 124 of Westbound Interstate 64 will be controlled by the ramp and US 250 by signal repair flags. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on US 250 between the eastbound ramps of I-64 and the westbound ramps of I-64. Please exercise caution during this time.
  • Route 20 (Stony Point Road) to Route 649 (Profit Road). Construction of a roundabout. Expect a temporary lane closure with traffic controller by flagships Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Speed ​​limit reduced to 25 miles per hour.
  • S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) off Route 151 (Critzer Shop Road). Construction of a roundabout. Expect single lane closures between 7am and 6pm Monday through Friday as traffic is controlled by flagships. Speed ​​limit reduced to 25 miles per hour. Watch out for equipment and workers near the lanes and follow the signs through the work area.

(NEW) Mowing: Expect mobile work areas, slow-moving vehicles and alternating lane closures on the following main route between 9am and 5pm. Watch out for shadow vehicles and mowers when approaching the work area.

  • S. 250 (Richmond Road) both east and west from Route 1107 (South Lego Farm Drive) to the Fluvanna County line, Tuesday through Friday.
  • Route 22 (Louisa Road) both eastbound and westbound from US 250 to the Louisa County line, Wednesday through Friday.
  • Route 231 (Gordonsville Road) both eastbound and westbound from Route 22 (Louisa Road) to the Albemarle County line Thursday and Friday.

US 29 (Seminole Trail) – VDOT approved utility work from Interstate 64 to Route 743 (Hydraulic Road). Expect a mobile work zone with northbound right shoulder closure between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday

US 29/250 Bypass – VDOT Approved Utility Works from US 250 Bypass Ramp to Route 743 (Hydraulic Road). Expect a mobile work zone with northbound right shoulder closure Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

(NEW) US 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) – Road Improvements. Expect alternating flag operations in the eastbound and westbound lanes from Route 1260 (Cory Farm Road) to Radford Lane Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) – Replacement of the bridge superstructure. Traffic will be reduced to one lane controlled by a temporary signal between Route 1231 (Davis Drive) and Route 691 (Tabor Street) until mid-July 2022. Expect traffic jams and delays during rush hours.

Route 631 (Rio Road East) – Sidewalk work between Route 1177 (Dunlora Drive) and Route 1481 (Pen Park Lane). Expect lane closures alternating with striping operations and workers near the lanes Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m

Culpeper County

(NEW) Route 686 (Lovers Lane) – Bridge Inspection. Expect alternating lane closures from Route 765 (Carleton Drive) to Route 776 (Industrial Road) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Fauquier County

Interstate 66 – VDOT Approved Utility Works. Expect eastbound and westbound right shoulder closures between mile marker 14 and mile marker 37 Sunday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm. Observe traffic stops and directional signs when approaching work areas.

US 17 (Swamp Road) – Replacing the south bridge via the railroad and Route 805 (Bealeton Road). One lane closed southbound. The lane closure will remain in place for most of the project. Expected completion December 2022.

US 17 (West Main Street) – Expect alternating lane closures for road construction between Route 1003 (Frost Street) and US 17 Business (Winchester Road) Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(TO UPDATE) US 17 (Marsh Road) – Construction of turn lanes. Expect workers on the right shoulder southbound near Route 837 (Bowers Run Road) Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m

US 29 (James Madison Highway) – VDOT Approved Utility Works. Expect mobile right shoulder strip closures northbound from the Culpeper County line to the Prince William County line Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 674 (Frytown Road) – road reconstruction. Road between Route 678 (Bald Hill Drive) and Route 1440 (Millwood Drive) closed to through traffic. Local traffic follows the signs. Project completion expected on June 3rd.

Route 805 (Bealeton Road) – road under US 17 (Marsh Road) bridge meanwhile reduced to one lane bridge replacement project. Traffic is regulated by temporary traffic lights.

(TO UPDATE) Route 806 (Elk Run Road) – VDOT approved utility works from Route 28 (Catlett Road) to Route 607 (Shenandoah Path). Expect alternating lane closures Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m

Louisa County

Federal highway 64 – debris removal. Expect mobile and stationary right shoulder closures on the eastbound and westbound lanes between mile marker 131 and mile marker 149 between mile marker 131 and mile marker 149 Monday through Friday from 7am to 5pm , while crews clear trees and other storm debris from the shoulder and clearing zone. Route 522 (Cross County Road) – Construction of a roundabout at US 250 (Broad Street Road) near the Goochland County Line. Expect flag operations Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
